Estonia Opera House centenary
September 2013 will see the 100th anniversary of the Estonia Theatre and Concert House. The centenary will be celebrated with a festival on 6-20 September and the first event is the historic anniversary gala with a banquet on 6 September.
The historic opening gala of the festival will take us a hundred years back in time – the guests will arrive in horse carts, ladies wear lace gloves, gentlemen top hats and Hamlet recites his monologue on the stage. The rising of the theatre house from the depths of the stage will provide a uniquely beautiful spectacle, taking us through the century of beauty and struggle. Singing will alternate with dance, bringing to stage the founders of professional theatre Paul Pinna and Theodor Altermann among others. Weizenberg’s statues, Dusk and Dawn, will spring to life, just like in the fairy tale, and find their home in the White Hall. The gala will end with a vision of a dreamy opera house.
