Jolly chimney sweep erected at the Karjavärava square
Jolly chimney sweep erected at the Karjavärava square, in front of the Savoy Boutique Hotel and restaurant MEKK.
The chimney sweet is a jolly man and if you touch his button, it brings you luck. Happy people live in the city with many chimney sweeps, the kind that do not shed tears because their stoves and furnaces work well and the smoke does not make their eyes ache.
Tallinn is a developing yet ancient city and the chimney sweep on a street of the Old Town is as symbolic as the Old Toomas at the top of the tower of the Town Hall or Fat Margaret at the Sea Gate. At the same time, most of the chimney sweeps are very mobile due to the nature of their job and those who have decided to ask for fortunate future for their families when meeting the jolly man, have hard time catching up with them. To decrease your need for walking and to ensure every button-feeler with the possibility of realising his or her dreams, a life-size bronze chimney sweep will be erected in the Old Town of Tallinn on the Karjavärava square in front of Savoy Boutique Hotel. This sculpture could become a joyous and caringsymbol of Tallinn.
For sure, there will be traditions developed, which will bring young married couples or highschool graduates to it.
The sculpture of the Chimney Sweep officially opened during the Tallinn Day on 15 May 2010 at 10.00 at the Karjavärava square. |
